Day 1. Arrival day in Chiang Mai
We will pick you up at the airport and take you to our tour hotel in the heart of the city. Depending on your arrival time, you can go sightseeing, shopping or just relax in the hotel. In the evening, we will have dinner at a restaurant on the river bank. Afterwards, we will visit the famous “night market”.
Day 2. Chiang Mai – Khun Yuam
After breakfast, we set off into the mountains. Our first stop is at an elephant camp, which can be reached via a suspension bridge over a small river. We will then take a winding drive to the summit of Doi Inthanon, the highest mountain in Thailand (2565 m). On a clear day, the view from there is spectacular. A little later we will have lunch at a roadside restaurant in Doi Inthanon National Park. From here we will cover an altitude difference of around 2000 meters in less than 30 kilometres on a steep, extremely winding road, which will take us to Khun Yuam.
Day 3. Khun Yuam – Mae Hong Son – Pai
Today we not only have pure driving fun, but there are also a number of sights to see. On today's route, there is a small Karen (Long Neck) village, which we will visit after a 10 kilometres detour on a small road and a river crossing. We will also be able to marvel at the largest stalactite cave in Southeast Asia. In the late afternoon, we reach Pai, which has become an extremely popular travel destination in recent years. After checking into our bungalow complex, we explore the town, where we are sure to discover a few delicacies at the night market.
Day 4. Pai – Chiang Dao – Thaton
We continue on a breathtaking route through the mountains of northern Thailand. There are more than 750 bends in the next 100 km alone. From Chiang Dao we then take small roads up into the mountains, which lead along the border with Myanmar to Mount Doi Ankang. Here we visit a royal project where exotic fruits and vegetables are grown for Thailand. An extremely steep road leads us down to the plain, where we will spend the night in the small town of Thaton.
Day 5. Thaton – Doi Maesalong – Mae Sai
Today we are travelling on very winding, small asphalt roads and are always driving along the Burmese border. We will soon reach the famous Doi Mae Salong, where we will visit a village of the same name high in the mountains, which was founded by Chinese exiles in 1962. When we see the Chinese style in the hills of northern Thailand, it will feel as if we have crossed a border into China; even the local market is dominated by Chinese goods. We then come to Mae Sai, the border town with Myanmar, where we first check into our city hotel. Here we have the opportunity to walk across the bridge into Myanmar and visit the local market.
Day 6. Mae Sai - Chiang Rai
After breakfast, we cruise on easy-to-drive roads to the so-called “Golden Triangle”, which was once famous for opium production.
We now take a speedboat on the Mekong River to an island that belongs to Laos. After our little trip across the Mekong, we will visit the Opium Museum. We then travel along a wide, well-developed road to Chiang Rai, where we check into a city hotel at around 2 p.m. In the evening, a food market at the Night Bazaar tempts visitors with a variety of delicacies.
Day 7. Chiang Rai – Nan via Road 1148
After only 10 kilometres on our tour today, we visit the “White Temple”, built by a famous Thai artist. After we have satisfied our cultural cravings, it is now time for pure driving fun. A very well-developed winding road (top 10 of the most beautiful motorcycle roads in the world) through a fantastic mountain landscape with little traffic makes your heart beat faster. Shortly before we move into our beautiful resort with pool in Nan, we visit a small, unusual temple with very old wall paintings.
Day 8. Nan - Phayao
Today we drive through national parks and along lush green rice fields towards Phayao on the lake. We will reach Phayao on fantastic roads, lunch will be served in a local restaurant. After we have checked into our hotel, right on the lake, we will go on a short boat trip to a Buddha island, where we can familiarize ourselves a little with the Buddhist rituals.
Day 9. Phayao – Chiang Mai
A few kilometres along our route today there is a beautiful waterfall, where we will stop before heading back to Chiang Mai on winding roads. We will reach Chiang Mai in the early afternoon. There will still be time to relax in the hotel or have a relaxing massage. We will then round off our eventful tour with a meal together in the evening.
